Wauwatosa Winter Eats: Must-Try Local Soup

If you ask us, there are really only a few things better than a scrumptious, warm bowl of soup on a cold Wauwatosa winter day. Whether you prefer it in a cup or bowl, hearty or light, with or without toppings, Tosa’s wide array of soups will leave you toasty and smiling from ear to ear.

We’ve rounded up five must-try soups, where you’ll find everything from chili to tomato soup for a Tosa winter you won’t forget.

Loup Soups

Where to find them: 7505 Harwood Ave

What to order: Mom’s Chili

With Mom’s Chili, every mouthwatering bite is filled with free-range ground beef, kidney beans, red bell peppers, celery, and diced tomatoes simmered to perfection with Loup’s very own Chili Seasoning Blend. Oh, and did we mention that it’s gluten-free?

Loup Soups likes to keep things fresh by changing up their hot Soups of the Day and their bakery options so be sure to keep an eye out for new items. Their delicious soups can be ordered in a cup, bowl, or quart size, and they always come with fresh bread and whipped butter — talk about comfort food!

Maxie’s

Where to find them: 6732 W Fairview Ave

What to order: Maxie’s Mighty-Mighty Gumbo

Filled to the brim with chicken, andouille, crawfish, rice, and scallion, this 12oz Southern delight will transport you straight to Louisiana.

Maxie’s “Low Country” cooking inspiration comes from the Carolinas, Creole, and Cajun cooking of Louisiana, as well as traditional slow-smoked Southern barbeque.

They currently offer curbside pick-up and in-house dining.

Kin by Rice N Roll

Where to find them: 7484 W State Street

What to order: Tom Kha Soup

Dive into Kin by Rice N Roll’s Tom Kha Soup — a gluten-free delight with mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, onion, scallion, lime juice, Thai herbs, and coconut milk broth. Take your pick from tofu, chicken, or shrimp as an added protein.

This family-run restaurant specializes in varieties of Asian food and sushi, served up in a modernized, Kin by Rice N Roll way.

They are currently open for curbside pick-up/carry-out, delivery, and dine-in service.

Le Rêve Patisserie & Café

Where to find them: 7610 Harwood Ave

What to order: Soup À L’Oignon Gratinée (aka french onion soup!)

Le Rêve’s French onion soup is a true classic here in Tosa — from its perfectly caramelized onions to its delectable stock, achieving the perfect cheese pull with the gooey Saxon Farm Cheese melted on top. Served in a cup or bowl, this cozy dish will warm you right up and have you continuously digging for that next bite.

This French-inspired patisserie and cafe serves traditional bistro meals from breakfast through late-night dinner.

With their carry-out ‘takeaway’ food and drink options, you can order anything from your own Kir Royale Kit to artisan, scratch-made Paczki.

Mo’s Irish Pub

Where to find them: 10842 W Bluemound Rd

What to order: Tomato Soup

Last (but certainly not least!), we absolutely couldn’t leave off Mo’s Irish Pub’s oven-roasted Tomato Soup. This silky, creamy pleasure will bring you right back to your parent’s kitchen.
