Where to Cool Off This Summer in Wauwatosa

Two people getting drinks outdoors at Wauwaiki

Cool off in Wauwatosa with the coolest summer plans. Grab a cold, island-inspired cocktail with friends, make a splash at Tosa Pool at Hoyt Park with the kids, enjoy the many flavors of Pete’s Pop popsicles at numerous Tosa events, and so much more when you visit Tosa this summer.

Cool Activities & Summer Fun

The Pool at Hoyt Park. There’s nothing quite like a dip (or cannonball!) in the pool on a hot Wisconsin summer day.  Complete with diving boards, giant slides, and concessions, as well as a tot water play set and a sand play area, Tosa Pool at Hoyt Park is perfect for all ages. Daily admission is $9 per person, and children ages 2 and under are free.

Plus, dry off from a day of fun in the sun at The Landing at Hoyt Park, a kid- and dog-friendly outdoor beer garden just steps away from the pool. Bring your own picnic or try The Landing’s light refreshments and local food truck options.

1st & Bowl. Enjoy wholesome indoor fun at Milwaukee’s first-ever football bowling bar: 1st & Bowl. Adding a fun twist to the classics, try your hand at Basketball Connect 4, Football Bowling, and bags at their indoor facility.

Mayfair Mall. Located in The Mayfair District, Mayfair Mall features more than 160 retailers for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Beat the heat with Wisconsin’s premier shopping center for a day of shopping indoors.

Milwaukee County Zoo’s Aquatic & Reptile Center. Milwaukee County Zoo is a classic spot when it comes to things to do in the summer. Whether it’s your first visit to the zoo or you’re returning for your tenth trip, check out the Aquatic & Reptile Center which features a 28K-gallon Pacific Coast Marine Aquarium and 30-species Lake Wisconsin filled with a huge selection of fish, reptiles, invertebrates, and amphibians.

Frozen Treats & Tasty Delights

Pete’s Pops. The coolest treat on a summer day? Definitely a Pete’s Pops popsicle! Catch their popsicle stand around Wauwatosa’s local events like Tosa Tonight and Tosa Farmers Market. Enjoy countless flavors from their popsicle stand, including Salted Watermelon, Key Lime Pie, Pineapple Jalapeno, and Coffee ‘N Donuts — just to name a few!

For the adults: If you love a good margarita, they’re currently running a collaboration with BelAir Cantina where you can try the popsicle margarita of your dreams.

Ted’s Ice Cream & Restaurant. A nostalgic diner that serves up American classics, Ted’s Ice Cream & Restaurant offers creamy chocolate malts served in the metal mixing cup that it’s made in. Enjoy the ultimate ice cream eating experience on a hot day while sitting in this old-fashioned diner.

Niemann’s Candies & Ice Cream. Dedicated to the fine art of creating homemade ice cream (and candy!), Niemann’s Candies & Ice Cream has been around since 1970 as a family business that’s rooted in history with the same recipes and displays since the beginning.

Pro tip: Try their Chocolate Marshmallow ice cream for a heavenly Tosa treat.

Boozy Milkshakes & Island-Inspired Beverages

Buckatabon. Besides the incredibly cool atmosphere that features a lowlands-style vibe, Buckatabon offers Frank’s Ice Cream Wonders (alcoholic milkshakes) to really up your happy hour game this summer. You can’t go wrong with any of their six boozy frozen cocktail options — which can also be made boozeless too.

Wauwatiki. Located in East Tosa, Wauwatiki offers beverages that will transport you from Tosa to the tropics. Served in a miniature tiki mug and filled with bourbon, orange curaçao, falernum, cinnamon syrup, lemon, orange, and bitters, The Wilson! is always our favorite recommendation. Try their numerous other island-inspired beverages while exploring the Midwest.
